Kenpo - Structure

Today in class I asked the head instructor about the arm position when doing the down block palm down and the block palm up (Long Form One). When the palm is down we cross the body, but when the palm is up we only go half way because the tricep muscle will not allow the arm to go across.

More structures to consider....

When doing an elbow strike at or above the sternum we have our palm down.

When doing the elbow strike below the sternum we have our palm up.

The biceps flex better with the palm facing us, so when the arms pull in we have our hands facing us.

The triceps extends better with the palm facing away from us, so when the arm pushes out we have our hands with our palms facing away.
